Discover the world's largest Christmas tree

The beautiful town of Gubbio in Umbria, Italy, has the largest Christmas tree in the world. At least, a creative interpretation of it.

The illuminated Christmas tree nestles against the Monte Ingino hill each year and measures a whopping seven hundred meters from the base to the star at the top. In Gubbio, however, it is clearlt not a real tree as we know it. It involves long cables with colored lights hanging from them, creating the illusion of a giant Christmas tree as soon as it gets dark. But it is a big job every year to hang this beautiful Christmas decoration. It takes about 1,900 hours to get the cables (nearly eight kilometers) in place and make sure all the lights are on. This immense tree has been placed in Gubbio since 1981 and in 1991 the Guinness Book of World Records awarded this magisterial tree the designation of "the largest Christmas tree in the world".
