Woman (45) in coma due to injections with fake Ozempic

Fake Ozempic pens are being sold online, and now this is having dire consequences for a Belgian woman who wanted to lose weight effortlessly.

The 45-year-old woman from Belgium injected 18 fake doses and ended up in a diabetic coma.

Some counterfeit pens seized were found to contain insulin instead of semaglutide, Ozempic's active ingredient that acts on sugar levels and satiety. And that is potentially deadly.

Belgian's doctor said she injected at least 18 doses of pure insulin into herself, nearly five times the recommended dose for someone with diabetes.

According to figures from the Partnership for Safe Medicines, an NGO that monitors counterfeit drugs, counterfeit Ozempic has now been found in 16 countries. And according to Reuters, counterfeit Ozempic has even caused the death of one patient.
