In Germany, fears of Russian intrusions are real
Last week, the German military reported that a hole in the fence at the Wahn air base near Cologne in western Germany had been discovered.
As suspicions of sabotage increase, security around German military bases and barracks is being stepped up. “Last week’s incidents were subject of a rapid and extensive response throughout Germany, with increased controls, increased patrols, inspections of fencing systems and technical security measures. Some areas have also been closed off and awareness-raising measures have been taken,” stressed the Bundeswehr, or the federal defense.
However, the alert level remains at “alpha” level, i.e. the lowest of the four, specified a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense.
