North Korean troops deployment to Russia initiated by Pyongyang, reveal US officials

The deployment of North Korean troops to Russia was initiated by Pyongyang, not Moscow, according to U.S. officials.

The initiative was swiftly approved by Vladimir Putin, as reported by The New York Times, with a contingent of at least 10,000 troops sent to the Russian capital in November.

Currently, North Korean forces are fighting alongside Kremlin troops in Russia’s Kursk region, where some areas remain under Ukrainian control following a surprise offensive last summer.

According to U.S. officials, Kim Jong Un is not expecting anything in return for now. However, he hopes Moscow will reciprocate in the future with diplomatic support, crisis assistance, or technological aid.

In addition to manpower, the North Korean regime has supplied shells, ammunition, and missiles to help Russia sustain a consistent rate of attacks on Ukraine.
