Wife of ousted Syrian dictator Assad suffers leukemia: 'Only 50% chance of survival'
Six months ago, leukemia was diagnosed in Asma al-Assad, the 49-year-old wife of ousted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad. And the future does not bode well.
A source at The Guardian reports that Asma al-Assad's chances of survival are now only 50%.
“Asma is dying,” said a source in close contact with the family. “She is now in isolation to avoid contracting an infection.” Her father Fawaz Akhras (a London-based cardiologist, ed) is now said to be taking care of her. Asma also faced breast cancer in 2018. After an intense year, she was then declared cured.
In May 2024, the then Syrian “first lady” received a new leaden diagnosis: she suffers from myeloid leukemia, an acute form of blood cancer. Possibly Asma now wants to seek further treatment in London. British politicians, however, fiercely oppose her return. She was born in London and thus has British citizenship, but the UK issued a lot of sanctions against the al-Assad family.
