Man who has repeatedly claimed to be Bitcoin’s creator sentenced to jail
A computer scientist who repeatedly claimed to be the inventor of Bitcoin has been found guilty of contempt by the UK’s High Court of Justice.
Last March, the UK’s highest court ruled that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of the world’s most popular and valuable cryptocurrency.
Despite the ruling, Craig Wright continued to challenge the court’s decision, insisting that he is indeed Bitcoin’s creator and, therefore, holds its intellectual property rights. He also claimed that he is owed 911 billion pounds.
The High Court determined that Craig Wright had violated the initial ruling and sentenced him to 12 months in prison, with a two-year suspended sentence.
If Craig Wright, an Australian who resides in the UK, continues to claim he is Satoshi Nakamoto, he will face imprisonment.
Craig Wright has been asserting that he is the creator of Bitcoin since 2016.
