Volodymyr Zelenskyy urges diplomats to fight for NATO membership
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on his country's diplomats to fight for Ukraine's place in NATO, asserting that this goal is "achievable."
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised further "destruction" following a Ukrainian drone attack that targeted the city of Kazan.
Kyiv argues that joining the military alliance or securing a protected status is crucial to stopping Russia's ongoing offensives. So far, Ukraine has not received a formal invitation to join NATO, with the organization only stating that Ukraine will eventually become a member of the alliance.
"We all understand that Ukraine’s invitation to Nato and membership in the alliance can only be a political decision," he told diplomats in Kyiv on Sunday.
Previously, the Ukrainian president proposed that regions not occupied by Russia be granted NATO membership, emphasizing that the alliance represents a tangible guarantee of security for his country.
