2 centiliters of whisky: 9000 dollars!
The prestigious Waldhaus, a historic hotel located near Saint Moritz in Switzerland and renowned as the best whisky bar in the world, made a great sale with a Chinese client in 2017.
Offering a menu of more than 2,500 whisky blends, the house is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for its unique collection. The prices of these prestigious and highly sought-after beverages vary between 7 Swiss francs (6.10 euros) to 9,999 Swiss francs (8,733 euros or around 9,100 dollars) for a 2 centiliter dose.
A Chinese tourist, passing through the region, is said to have tasted a glass of whisky in 2017, a Macallan vintage 1878, at a price of 9,999 CHF, revealed the website 20minuten.ch.
This information has been confirmed by the hotel. This fabulous bottle was apparently uncorked especially for his client and connoisseur. Maccalan is known as James Bond's favorite whisky. This bottle of whisky, which was stored in the hotel's cellar, was kept in barrels for 27 years and bottled in 1905.
According to the bartender, the client was apparently satisfied with his tasting.
As for the hotel's owner, Sandro Bernasconi, he still hopes to serve 3 to 5 glasses to cover his costs. And he took the opportunity to taste a drop of this extremely rare whisky.
After his tasting, he reportedly explained to 20.minuten.ch: "Smell wise, it has the scent of an old cognac, with notes of Port, it melts on the tongue, before releasing sweet notes left by the barrel".
