The Lancia Ypsilon Joins the R4 Rally Championship
The Lancia Ypsilon will be competing in the R4 rally championship. While it's a step down from the top-tier WRC category, the return of a brand that defined rallying's golden years is still big news.
Lancia is having a phoenix-like rebirth. The Italian brand made a comeback beyond its home country in 2024, relaunching its distribution network and introducing its first new model in 13 years: the new Ypsilon. Lancia also announced its return to rally racing with the Ypsilon Rally4 HF, which will compete in a six-race series known as the Lancia Rally Trophy. This trophy will be integrated into the 2025 Italian Rally Championship. The champion will then have the opportunity to race the Ypsilon Rally4 HF in the 2026 European Rally Championship as part of the Lancia Corse HF team.
A Gasoline Engine for Racing
The Ypsilon Rally4 HF is built for competition, meeting the technical and safety standards of the R4 class. This front-wheel-drive model is powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder turbo engine delivering 212 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission with a mechanical limited-slip differential. Additionally, this rally version is available for any R4 drivers via the competition pool.
Electric for the Road
For those who want to experience sporty thrills on the open road, a road-legal Ypsilon HF will be available at dealerships in 2025. However, unlike the rally car, this Ypsilon HF is fully electric, boasting a 280 hp motor! It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. The Ypsilon also comes in a 100 hp hybrid version and a 156 hp electric version.
