"They are hired killers"
The controversy continues to swell following the shocking statements by Pope Francis on his return from Belgium to Rome and the Vatican.
On leaving Belgium, Pope Francis spoke again about abortion, and uttered this shocking sentence:
"Abortion is murder, a human being is killed. And the doctors who perform such an act are hired killers".
A statement against abortion and therefore against the law, since the law on abortion was passed in Belgium in 1990 and remarks that seem completely disconnected from real life.
And the Pope added:
"Women have the right to life: their life and that of their children".
Even within the ranks of the church, some are shocked, such as Gabriel Ringlet, priest, theologian and former vice-rector of the Catholic University of Louvain who stated on RTBF that he believes that "these remarks are unbearable, I work in a hospital with doctors, I'm confronted with the question of abortion, euthanasia, I know how attentive these people are to the suffering of their patients and I find these remarks truly unspeakable".
