Tesla most deadly car brand in the event of an accident
A study by ISeeCars, a specialist in the online resale of used cars in the USA, ranks cars and brands according to their fatality rate after an accident. The result will annoy billionaires.
The organization that represents insurance in the USA, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), has found out that the number of accidents and deaths on American roads has increased over the last 5 years compared to the previous 12 years. The fatal accident rate is now 2.8 per billion miles driven (4.5 billion km). Based on this, iSeeCars, a website specializing in used car resale, has carried out a study to determine the models and car brands most often involved in these fatal accidents.
Size and behavior
The most life-threatening model is the small 4.04 m Hyundai Venue SUV. With a rate of 13.9 fatal accidents per billion miles driven, it's 4.9 times more than the average! Next in this macabre ranking are the Chevrolet Corvette, the Mitsubishi Mirage (a city car), the Porsche 911, the Honda CR-V and the Tesla Model Y. According to iSeeCars, this shows that car size and risky behavior are factors that increase the risk of a fatal accident.
Tesla for car brands
In the ranking of car brands, taking into account all the rates of its models, Tesla is considered the most dangerous. It has a fatal accident rate of 5.6 per billion miles driven. This is followed by Kia (5.5), Buick (4.8), Dodge (4.4) and Hyundai (3.9). iSeeCars is astonished by Tesla's low ranking, despite the fact that its cars are equipped with a full range of driving aids. According to the study, these high fatality rates “reflect driver behavior as much as, if not more than, vehicle design”. And that, undoubtedly, those “behind the wheel” of a Tesla tend to rely too much on technology, and all this ends up distracting them from their driving task.
