Terrace collapses: wedding turns into drama
In Saint-Pierre, in the French department of Cantal, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, a wedding turned into a tragedy on Saturday, with one dead and dozens injured.
The accident happened in the commune's multipurpose hall: about 150 people were celebrating a wedding there when suddenly a terrace gave way on which dozens of people were standing. A 69-year-old woman did not survive, 39 people were injured, four of them seriously.
A major rescue operation was launched after the accident, with helicopters, rescue vehicles and firefighters. Guests at the wedding received psychological support. An investigation was launched into unintentional homicide and unintentional injuries, with a thorough examination of the building.
