Trump threatens South Africa
Donald Trump has accused South Africa of practicing a massive violation of human rights in full view of the world, in a message published on his own Social Truth network.
With no apparent reason or recent litigation to understand this attack, Trump begins by saying that the African country “confiscates land and treats certain classes of people badly”.
Faced with this situation, he warns that “the United States will not tolerate it. We will act”, he announced, without giving further details, but planning to cut off all future funding to the country until an investigation is carried out.
South Africa thus becomes the first African state to be threatened by Trump, as have Colombia, Mexico, Canada and China in recent days, albeit for clearer and more specific reasons.
In the absence of further explanations from Trump, it's likely that the American president's anger is linked to South Africa's importance in the BRICS group, whose plans to do away with the dollar as a currency of exchange have infuriated Trump.
It should also be remembered that the very powerful Elon Musk is a South African national, and hardly in agreement with the policies of President Ramaphosa's left-wing anti-apartheid government.
