Massive asteroid could hit Earth in seven years
An asteroid as large as the London Eye could collide with Earth in seven years, scientists have warned.
The space rock, which has a diameter of around 100 meters and is traveling at a speed of over 60,000 km/h, was discovered last year on Christmas Day by an observatory in Chile specializing in tracking potentially hazardous space objects.
According to calculations, the asteroid has a 1 in 83 chance of hitting Earth on December 22, 2032, which has led the European Space Agency (ESA) to place it at the top of its "risk list."
Scientists will closely monitor the asteroid to determine if it poses a real threat. Experts believe that crashing a spacecraft into the asteroid could alter its trajectory and prevent a collision with Earth.
