Baltic Sea: Finland urges seizure of tanker suspected of sabotage
Finland’s national grid operator, Fingrid, has requested a court order to seize the tanker Eagle S, which is suspected of deliberately damaging the Estlink 2 power cable.
Finnish authorities recently identified the Eagle S, part of a covert Russian fleet, as being responsible for the malicious act.
"Further investigations at the damage site are expected to provide more information about the extent of the damages and enable more detailed planning and scheduling of the repair," Fingrid said before adding that the repairs will be completed in August.
Fingrid has filed a claim with the Helsinki District Court seeking financial compensation for the damages.
The undersea cable, which connects Finland to Estonia, was damaged despite heightened NATO surveillance in the Baltic Sea.
