A battery that can drive for 1200km and charges ultra-fast

The Chinese car manufacturer, Chery, has announced that it has developed a battery for electric cars with a range of 1,200km. It can recover 400km in just 5 minutes of charging.

The Chinese car group presented the "Kunpeng" batteries. These are lithium cells. Some are lithium-iron-phosphate, others are ternary. Ternary means that in addition to lithium, the cathode contains three additional active materials, generally nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) or nickel-cobalt-aluminium (NCA).

These batteries accept ultra-fast charges of 480 kWh. This allows the recovery, on average, of 400km of range after a 5-minute break at an appropriate terminal. In addition, charges won't have to be carried out often because these new 6C batteries have an electric range of up to 1,200km.

The group has also announced that it's working on solid electrolyte batteries. The autonomy would then be 1500km. The first commercializations are scheduled for 2027!
