A volcano that spews gold: is this the synopsis of a new fantasy film?

No, no fantasy here. In Antarctica, there is indeed a volcano, Mount Erebus, which spews small particles of crystallized gold every day, as well as gases, steam and pieces of rock.

Some gold coins have even been discovered nearly 1,000 kilometers from the volcano.

Volcanic eruptions are exciting in themselves, but gas eruptions that spew tiny gold crystals are a wonder! Scientists are crazy about them, and they estimate that Mount Erebus spews about 80 grams of gold per day.

Nestled between glaciers, Mount Erebus is the southernmost active volcano on the planet. It brings a little warmth to the middle of this frozen landscape.

A golden rain on the coldest continent that activates and never ceases to feed the imagination.
