A meteorite crashes into man's garden, exactly where he was standing a few minutes before
Last Wednesday, January 22, the American television network CNN reported that a meteorite had crashed into the garden of a resident of Prince Edward Island (Canada). A unique event.
July 25, 2024. A meteorite falls into the courtyard of a Canadian home, exactly where the owner was standing just a few minutes beforehand. According to the owner, the meteorite caused a great deal of damage. “The driveway was a mess. There was black debris everywhere. The first thing I thought was that something had fallen from the roof,” the victim told Radio Canada.
Months after the incident, an in-depth laboratory analysis confirmed that it was indeed a meteorite, reports 20 Minutes. Dubbed “Charlottetown” (the name of the nearby town), this fragment of celestial body was officially listed in a database controlled and managed by the Meteoritical Society, a non-profit organization.
It was thanks to a surveillance camera placed in the doorbell of the house that the scene was captured, and published by the University of Alberta in mid-January 2025. Chris Herd, Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, enthusiastically points out that “no other meteorite fall has been documented in this way”. In addition, the institution claims that no meteorite fall has occurred on Prince Edward Island to date.
The video, which is currently being analyzed, may reveal more about the physical properties of “Charlottetown” and why it fell.
