Putin willing to discuss peace but not with the ‘illegitimate’ Zelenskyy

Vladimir Putin has stated that he is willing to negotiate peace in Ukraine, but not directly with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whom he considers "illegitimate."

As the war approaches its third anniversary in February, both leaders have expressed a desire to end the conflict. However, while Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president has previously signed a decree banning any talks with the Russian leader.

"If [Zelenskyy] wants to participate in the negotiations, I will send people to take part. If there is a desire to negotiate and find a compromise, let anyone lead the negotiations there... Naturally, we will strive for what suits us, what corresponds to our interests," Vladimir Putin said on national television.

The Russian president also argued that the war in Ukraine could end within months if Western nations stopped supplying military aid to Kyiv.

"They will not last a month if the money and, in a broad sense, the bullets run out. Everything would be over in a month and a half or two," he claimed.
