Volcano Etna erupts during vacation season: airport closed and city covered in ash
Still a bit of a scare for those vacationing in Sicily.
Etna is the largest active volcano in Europe and erupts regularly. And this volcano sometimes emits huge clouds of ash and volcanic gas, which can reach kilometers high. This time, Catania airport even had to be closed for hours because the runway was covered with a layer of ash. The planes also turned gray. It is the second time this month that the airport has had to close for several hours because of an eruption of Mount Etna.
