Lightning kills girl (13) on Greek beach
13-year-old Dorothea died tragically after she was struck by lightning on a Greek beach.
On June 28, Dorothea and her family were swimming at Faros beach, near Poseidi. The storm took them all by surprise while they were still in the water.
As the family went to collect their belongings on their way back to the beach, they were surprised by a bolt of lightning. The young girl, who was walking right behind her mother, was struck by lightning, probably by a small metal button on her swimsuit, French media La Dépêche reported. The father, who administered first aid to his daughter, told Greek news site Protothema, "Lightning struck both my wife and my daughter. If they were holding hands, as they were just before, the lightning would have swept them both away."
He continued traumatized, "My child fell and didn't get back up."
