12-year-old Owen saved his father's life with a quick-witted heroic act, when a black bear suddenly struck in Wisconsin. However, there was more to it than that.

Father and son were enjoying themselves on a hunting trip when a black bear weighing 90kg suddenly attacked the father. During the attack, the father fell to the ground and the son didn't hesitate for a second: with one well-aimed shot he took out the black bear. The father was bitten in the stomach, arm and leg.

However, the father and son were hunting black bears. They first wounded the bear with a shot, after which the animal ran into the forest to escape its killers. They started the chase it, after which the wounded animal really attacked them for the first time. It was then that 12-year-old Owen shot the bear dead.
