Will Korean of 80 years old become the new Miss Universe?
It would have caused a huge stir: an 80-year-old woman from South Korea outshining all the much younger candidates to win the Miss Universe crown. But it won't come to that for 80-year-old Choi Soon-hwa. She made a huge statement with her candidacy though.
As age restrictions were thrown out for the Miss South Korea beauty pageant, 80-year-old Choi Soon-hwa decided to take her chances. She made it through the preselections and on Monday night competed with 31 compatriots for a spot representing her country at the Miss Universe international finals in Mexico in November.
She didn't make it in the end, but her fighting spirit, pride and courage, inspire a lot of people around the world. “I want to amaze the world. That everyone wonders how it is possible for an 80-year-old to be so healthy ... I want to show that even when you are old you can still live very healthy,” she said in an interview with CNN. “Looking beautiful is important, but I think you also need to feel comfortable AND respect others. In addition, it is important to think positively; there is so much negativity these days.”
