A true miracle: Rescue workers find missing hiker after 2 weeks
American Scott (48) has since returned home safely, but his life was really hanging by a thread. A lot of friends and family had already given up hope of a happy ending.
This unplanned adventure began on 5 July. That's when Scott went for a brisk walk in Red River Gorge, a nature reserve of some 29,000 hectares in the US state of Kentucky. But he did not return home, after which a massive search operation was launched.
The American was looking for waterfalls, but got lost. After two weeks of intensive searching for a trace of the missing 40-year-old, rescuers found a shoe print. They searched at the site of the shoe print, and suddenly heard someone shouting 'help'. Scott had been found!
He had survived all this time with barely any food and drink in the American wilderness. He was severely weakened and was transferred by helicopter to hospital. There he is currently regaining strength. He can eat again, but cannot yet walk on his own. It is truly a miracle that the man was found after 14 days, 12 of which he was without food or water.
