Zelensky's new 'victory plan' to bring Moscow to its knees
President Zelenski bluntly called his new initiative unveiled at the “Ukraine 2024 Independence” forum in Kiev a "victory plan". “The plan should force Russia to end the war by diplomatic means. It will inevitably end through dialogue, but we should be able to start those negotiations from a position of strength,” the Ukrainian president belligerently echoed.
The offensive in Russia's Kursk region is only one of four components of Zelensky's ambitious plan. In fact, he plans to present the full plan to U.S. President Joe Biden in September, on the outskirts of the UN General Assembly in New York, which he hopes to attend. By the way, he also wants to discuss the plan with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, the two candidates to succeed Biden as president.
Ukraine has successfully tested a ballistic missile of its own, Zelenski reported, with which he hopes to fall even more into U.S. favor.
The Ukrainian president therefore hopes that the US will step in with his plan to force Moscow to end this war. “The possible success of the plan depends on him (Biden, ed.): will the US give us what is in the plan and will we be free to implement it?” asked Zelensky. In doing so, he is again putting pressure on Washington to allow Western long-range weapons to also be used against targets deep inside Russia.
For now, the move Zelensky is asking for is and remains a red line for Washington. After all, the U.S. fears that if it does, Russia will use nuclear weapons and start a Third World War.
