Russia prepares wave of attacks on Europe
European intelligence agencies are alarmed. Indeed, Russia is said to be preparing new, increasingly brazen hybrid attacks on Europe.
"Hostile manoeuvres, but more or less discreet, below the threshold of an act of war and for which Moscow can deny responsibility". That's the way many European media are describing the characteristics of these hybrid attacks. This type of attack has become Moscow's speciality long before the invasion of Ukraine.
While Finland and the Baltic countries reported last week malfunctions of their global position systems over the Baltic Sea (posing a high risk to air traffic), Germany and the Czech Republic are now also reporting new Russian cyber attacks.
According to several European intelligence agencies, as reported by the Financial Times, this is just the beginning of a larger operation. "Russia is preparing for a wave of attacks and sabotage," according to these agencies, with a threat of real terrorist acts, a rash of arsons or attacks on buildings in Europe.
Recently, Germany captured Russian spies during a sabotage mission, notably against "installations of US forces". An investigation was also opened in Britain "into possible attack plans on logistics centres storing weapons destined for Ukraine". In Europe concerns are growing…
