"Russia brought the war to others, now it's coming home"

Ukraine is adopting a new strategy: hit Russia on its own territory.

According to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, Ukraine has already captured 74 settlements on Russian territory in the Kursk region. By the way, Ukraine is doing so not with the intention of annexing the area to Ukraine, but to prevent Russia from carrying out further attacks on Ukraine from there.

Ukraine's attack on Russian territory in the Kursk border region began on 6 August.

'Safety of civilians is key'
'Controls and stabilisation measures' are being put in place in Ukrainian-controlled areas. The Ukrainian president stressed that the safety of civilians is paramount and that Kiev does not want to damage infrastructure.

Russian soldiers captured
The president also says the advance of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region continues. An increasing number of Russian soldiers are also being captured, possibly to be used as a negotiating tool for future exchanges with Russia.

With Western weapons in Russia
In the offensive on Russian soil, Ukraine is also deploying weapons given to it by its Western allies. Those no longer object the use of their weapons on Russian territory.
