"Putin present at peace conference? No way!"

Ukrainian President Zelensky hopes for Russia's presence at a forthcoming peace conference. The Kremlin does not think this is a good idea.

A first conference on peace in Ukraine was already held in Switzerland in June. Dozens of heads of state and government were invited, but not Russia. In November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to hold a second conference at which he wants to present his plan for a "just peace". At that summit, he wants Russia to be present.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian media that the Kremlin is not quite sure what Zelensky means by a "peace summit", since, according to him, the first peace summit "clearly failed".

Russia previously stated that it is not thinking of negotiations with Ukraine until Ukraine renounces NATO membership and gives up the territories currently occupied by Russia.
