Is the love over between Germany and Ukraine?
Germany will halve its military aid to Ukraine next year.
By 2025, German military aid to Ukraine will drop from around 8 billion euro to 4 billion euro, and Germany is doing so to make room for sufficient savings within its own government. Yet Ukraine has nothing to fear for the time being, German finance minister Christian Lindner stressed. He said at a press conference that he hopes Ukraine will be able to meet its military needs thanks to 50 billion euro in loans from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, supplemented by other European aid. "Ukraine's financing is secured for the foreseeable future thanks to European instruments and G7 loans," Lindner said.
Germany became the largest European supplier of military aid to Ukraine after initial hesitation and doubt. But now that seems to be changing.
