Biden imposes tough sanctions on Kremlin
The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against 400 Russian and foreign individuals as well as entities involved in supporting Moscow's war against Ukraine.
In a statement, the department headed by Janet Yellen said the sanctions, announced a day before Ukraine’s Independence Day, target entities in Russia, Asia, Europe and the Middle East whose products and services help Russia support its war effort and evade Washington’s sanctions.
The Treasury is targeting numerous transnational networks that engage in activities such as purchasing munitions and military equipment for Russia and facilitating sanctions evasion for Russian oligarchs through the creation of offshore companies and trust services.
In the US crosshairs are others who launder gold on behalf of a sanctioned Russian company or procure sensitive and critical items such as machine tools and advanced electronic components from Russia.
A total of 400 individuals and 'companies' will be severely punished.
