Trump as a giant Buddha: Sculptures are a hype on the internet

Donald Trump represented as Buddha, the mix is somewhat surprising. When opposites attract, the result is the sculptures of Hong Jinshi, a 47-year-old Chinese artist.

In the artisan sculptor's workshop, the American president-elect, with calm and peaceful features (which we know very little about), has found a special place. As indicated by 20 Minutes, these figurines can be made in all sizes, and have been sold between 140 and 2600 euros each since 2021 on the online platform Tabao. While Donald Trump's inauguration is fast approaching, the sculptures are currently experiencing a real resurgence of interest.

Hong Jinshi, who had crafted these figurines in a joking manner, explains: "There was a surge of interest in the days following his election." In recent years, the sculptor says he has sold hundreds of them. And if they are so popular it's because "Trump's personality and the appearance of the statue are radically opposed," explains Hong Jinshi. "It's always fun to make fun of authority figures and famous people a little."

Each package, in which the sculptures are carefully housed, says "Make your company great again" in Mandarin, a reference to Trump's now famous slogan "Make America Great Again". And to keep up the momentum, the Chinese craftsman has also transformed Elon Musk into Iron Man. In his version, Hong Jinshi has introduced a rocket emerging from Musk's crotch, a symbol of the SpaceX boss's galactic ambitions, underlines 20 Minutes.
