She steals an elderly woman's wheelchair: incredible police reaction

On September 1, a woman from New York had her $1,500 electric wheelchair stolen.

The thief was a woman. She was smoking in front of a store before committing the crime. This is what the victim, Rosalyn Johnson, 70, said in her statement to the police department. She added: “Addicts steal anything that is not fixed [to the ground].” Her story was also confirmed by video surveillance images released by the New York City Police Department. The suspect fled west towards Sterling Place. She has not been found since.

Rosalyn Johnson had been in a wheelchair since her stroke in 2011. She told the New York Post that she had forgiven the criminal. “I feel sorry for her. That’s just the way things are in this neighborhood. I feel sorry for her. She has to fight her own addiction.” This theft has undoubtedly made life more difficult for the middle aged woman who has lost an essential element to ensure her mobility.

To help her and give her back her independence, the deputy commissioner of operations of the New York City Police Department, Kaz Daughtry, decided to offer Rosalyn Johnson a new wheelchair. Despite everything, the deputy commissioner doesn't give up on his target and promises: “We are going to make her [the thief] famous and we are going to arrest her. And then we will take her to church with Mrs. Johnson, because that is what she wants.”
