Man discovers an island haunted by US nuclear testing...it's terrifying
TikToker/influencer “Vagabondartist” made this trip unlike any other. Intrepid and curious, the man stops at nothing when it comes to discovering the world.
The “Vagabondartist” visited one of the most radioactive places in the world, Bikini Atoll or Bikini Island, part of the Marshall Islands. To be on the safe side, the man only stayed in the highly radioactive area for around 3 hours.
A bit of history
Bikini Atoll was chosen by the US government as an operation base for nuclear testing after the Second World War, reports Demotivateur. At that time, in 1946 to be precise, the island's inhabitants were forced by the American authorities to evacuate the island as a matter of urgency. 160 residents in all.
Between 1946 and 1958, 23 nuclear tests were carried out on the island. In 1954, the largest nuclear weapon ever tested by the USA released 15 megatons of energy. According to Demotivateur, the test was called Castle Bravo. At the end of the tests, the US government authorized residents to return to Bikini Island. The level of radioactivity was still far too high.
Radiation levels 10 times higher than predicted
One after another, the island's residents began to get sick, provoking the anger of the Bikini community and leading the US government to pay $75,000,000 in compensation. A new study has just revealed that radiation levels on the island are 10 times higher than official predictions.
Today, as shown by TikToker “Vagabondartist”, the buildings are deserted, houses are almost intact, still fully furnished. “Some of these houses remain as they were on the day the evacuation order arrived (...)”, explains the content creator.
