Fake Brad Pitts steal hundreds of thousands of euros from fans
Spanish police have arrested five people on suspicion of a rather remarkable form of fraud.
The suspects from Andalusia contacted female fans of Brad Pitt online and pretended to be the American superstar. They then gave the victims a lot of compliments and made them believe that they had an emotional relationship. But in reality, they were only after the womens' money.
The gang members who pretended to be Brad Pitt then encouraged the women to invest in various non existant projects. One woman from the southern region of Andalusia was scammed for 175,000 euros, a second woman from the Basque Country lost 150,000 euros. In both cases, these were vulnerable women who were struggling with depression.
“They exchanged messages and emails with the two women, until it got to the point where they thought they were chatting on WhatsApp with Brad Pitt himself, who promised them a romantic relationship and a future together,” the Guardia Civil reported in the Spanish press.
