Attacked three times by hippos, a man recounts his ordeal
A man who survived three hippopotamus attacks has spoken of his ordeal.
Paul Templer lost his left arm in the terrible incident, which took place in Zimbabwe where he was working as a tourist guide.
The man explained that the encounter with the animal occurred while he was in his canoe near Victoria Falls.
"I was on an excursion with three other guides and a few tourists when we came across a group of hippos in the water. They weren't too close, and although I felt a little apprehensive, I thought we were safe," he told LADbible.
Paul Templer went on to explain that one of the guides fell into the water after a hippo capsized his boat. He then rushed into the water to help his other colleagues before he became the animals’ target.
"I saw the hippo coming towards me underwater - it looked like a submarine torpedo as it headed towards my canoe,’ he recounted. "From the waist down, I felt that I wasn't really wet, but I wasn't really dry either. I felt a sort of pressure in my lower back and, with one of my arms, I was able to feel around and I could feel hairs."
He then said that the animal started shaking him before finally spitting him out. However, the hippo came back twice and he miraculously escaped despite his injuries.
