At just 4 years old, he shoots his father with a hunting rifle
The scene took place in Cournon-d’Auvergne, near Clermont-Ferrand (a city in central France). A hunter wanted to share his passion with his 4-year-old son… A moment of union that quickly turned into tragedy.
On September 29, Sunday, the hunter and his son were in a car in a hunting area. “They met friends and stopped to chat. During the discussion, the child pulled the trigger of one of the hunters’ rifle. The shot injured his father in the ankle. He was seriously injured,” the police said.
The man was then immediately taken directly to hospital. Amputation of his foot is currently being considered. The little boy, barely 4 years old, was taken to a child psychiatric unit.
Following the incident, the presidents of Puy-de-Dôme Departmental Federation of Hunters, Dominique Busson's reaction was not long in coming. “The accident happened during a gathering of a few hunters. A shot was fired because of a loaded rifle. We shouldn’t make a big deal out of it either. There are basic safety instructions: when you meet someone, the rifle must be unloaded. This is a human error that we can only be shocked by. Whether there are children present or not, vigilance must be constant. Parents are irresponsible to take a 4-year-old child hunting,” he said.
For its part, the Clermont-Ferrand national police have opened an investigation in order to clarify the circumstances of the accident. According to the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), during the 2023-2024 season, 97 hunting accidents took place and six hunters were killed, indicates Demotivateur.
