Wrongly convicted by the United States, he receives a record sum!
In 2008, Marcel Brown, an African-American now 34, was arrested and imprisoned for the murder of a man he did not commit.
At the time of the events, the police had forced him to confess, holding him in particularly extreme conditions: 33 hours of interrogation without rest, food or option of calling a lawyer… While Marcel Brown had been sentenced to 35 years in prison, he was finally exonerated and released in 2018.
The young man, once released, had launched a legal action against the local authorities. The justice system then recognized the injustice of which he was the victim and ordered the city of Chicago (United States) to pay him 50 million dollars, reports Linfo.re. A record sum in the context of a wrongful conviction. "Justice has finally been served for me and my family," Marcel Brown said. According to his lawyers, "the jury determined that (Mr. Brown's) constitutional rights were violated and that the Chicago police fabricated evidence."
