Strange phenomenon in New York: visitors throw themselves from famous building
Inaugurated in 2019, The Vessel, a contemporary monument intended to represent the dynamism of the Hudson Yards district (west of Manhattan), also nicknamed the Eiffel Tower of New York, had to interrupt visits in January 2021, following a (first) suicide.
In August of the same year, a second death occured. Between 2019 and 2021, “four people committed suicide by jumping from the top of the structure,” reports Le Soir. Since then, the stairs are inaccessible to the public.
Today, the real estate developer claims that the monument will reopen its doors to the public “with new security measures.” Indeed, a safety fence will be installed from floor to ceiling.
The Vessel is a honeycomb-shaped structure, built on sixteen floors, composed of 154 staircases and no less than 2,500 steps.
