Breakthrough regarding missing Spanish brothers Izan (5) and Rubén (3)
Sad news reaches us from Torrent in Valencia, Spain.
Two weeks ago, the brothers Izan and Rubén were swept away by the floods. The two children, aged 3 and 5, were now found lifeless. They drowned in the devastating floods that hit the Valencia region at the end of October.
Intensive search for children
For fifteen days, rescue workers, as well as family members, neighbors, friends and volunteers, searched for the two brothers, sometimes hundreds at a time. But it wasn't to be. After two weeks they were found dead in two different places, a few kilometers from Torrent. Their families will formally identify the two children on Wednesday.
Ready for dinner
The brothers were sitting at the table with their father, waiting for their mother to return from work, when the devastating water entered their bungalow and swept it away. The water was 1.80 meters high. The father held the boys in his arms, but eventually had to loosen his grip, causing the two brothers to be swept away in the heavy current. The father was eventually also swept away, but was still able to cling to a branch 200 meters downstream. It would take hours before he was safe, but he survived the tragedy.
