Japan fears war spillover into Ukraine
On Saturday, Japanese Foreign Minister, Takeshi Iwaya, pledged his unwavering support for Kiev.
During his visit to the Ukrainian capital, and in particular to the city of Buchah, where Russian soldiers are accused of committing the worst atrocities against civilians, Takeshi Iwaya returned to the arrival of North Korean forces on Russian soil, and the consequences of such involvement in the conflict. He specified that “this will not only aggravate the situation in Ukraine, but will also have extremely significant implications for the security situation in East Asia”.
For several weeks now, the West and Ukraine have been claiming that thousands of North Korean soldiers have been sent to the Russian Kursk region, reflecting a strengthening of relations between Pyongyang and Moscow.
The Japanese minister insisted on one point: “Our position remains unchanged, namely that Japan will stand by Ukraine.”
