Will Britain be the much-needed plan B for Ukraine?
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warns that Britain may have to send British troops to Ukraine if Donald Trump, on his return as president, reduces US support for Kiev.
According to Johnson, the UK should then also consider additional steps to defend Ukraine if Russia gains the upper hand. The former prime minister stressed that US and allied support for Ukraine is an ‘investment’ to prevent future threats from Russia and China. Without that support, Britain might have to send ground troops anyway, Boris Johnson reasoned. ‘If Ukraine falls, we face an even greater threat on our borders,’ Johnson explained. ‘That will be felt not only in Ukraine, but also in the Baltics, Georgia, and even in the South China Sea.’
And a new Russian dominance could threaten the security of all of Europe, according to Johnson. ‘Our collective security is at risk if we don't stop Russia, and that could mean sending British troops to support Ukraine.’
