EU renews sanctions against Russia
European Union member states reached an agreement at a meeting in Brussels on Monday to extend sanctions against Russia.
At a meeting in Brussels, foreign ministers from the 27 EU member states unanimously agreed to extend sanctions for six months. ‘This will continue to deprive Moscow of revenues to finance its war. Russia must pay for the damage it causes,’ senior European foreign policy representative Kaja Kallas wrote when announcing the decision on her social media channels.
The European Union has imposed economic and financial sanctions on Russia since destarting its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The sanctions have to be renewed each time by a unanimous decision of the member states and that happened again on Monday 27 January in the Belgian capital.
