Why did this Desperate Housewife flee the US?
Eva Longoria and her family now split their time between Mexico and Spain...
Eva Longoria, the sultry actress that shot to fame in the series “Desperate Housewives”, has left the US. In an interview with the magazine Marie Claire she revealed that she and her husband José Bastón, along with their six-year-old son Santiago, no longer call Los Angeles home. For years, her family has primarily lived outside of Hollywood. They now split their time between Spain and Mexico.
The reason she cites is the current vibe in the US. “The shocking part is not that he [Trump] won,” she says. “It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office… If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place.”
Many people have said they would leave the US if Trump was elected. Longoria said she is “privileged” to be able to do so for herself and her family.
“I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky,” she added. “They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
During the election period, Longoria was often seen campaigning for the Harris-Walz ticket in an effort to recruit Latino voters.
“I would like to think our fight continues,” she said of her work with the Democratic party.
Even before the pandemic, Longoria, who was born and raised in Texas, said she felt the country “was changing” for several reasons, but it really just boiled down to the fact that she wanted something new. “It just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
Her new life certainly keeps her busy. Longoria has recently starred in and executive produced the series “Land of Women,” and appeared in six episodes of the hit series “Only Murders in the Building.” She has also released a second cookbook and starred in the “Searching for Mexico” series.
