This is how to look after your ageing dog

When people get older, all kinds of age-related ailments pop up. They need to rest more, become more rigid, get cold or too hot more quickly ... This is no different for dogs. Dogs do not stay young forever either. So they need extra care and attention from their owner.

This is how to make the life of your 'aging friend' as pleasant as possible:

Provide a comfortable resting place
Pleasant temperature, soft and clean.
Take care of the coat
With a slightly damp microfibre cloth, you can stroke the dog and clean places where the animal can no longer wash itself.
The rear of the animal can be cleaned with a warm and damp cloth.
Feeding
Preferably choose senior food as it is adapted to the needs of an ageing animal.
Veterinarian
Visit the vet regularly so that any aging ailments can be detected in time.
Behaviour change
The behaviour of old pets can change; becoming more anxious, waking up at night, orientation problems, becoming untrained, less sociable, walking or jumping more difficult. Many are due to pain or illness, or also dementia. Always contact your vet if problems are identified.
Costs
The cost of medication and special food can easily amount to 100 euros per month.
Set up a 'pet piggy bank' in advance.
