Mercedes-Benz gifts Pope Francis his new electric Popemobile
Mercedes-Benz has presented Pope Francis with a new Popemobile to mark the 2025 Jubilee.
The pontiff will now travel in an electric vehicle after Ola Källenius, CEO of the German automaker, and his team gifted him a brand-new white G-Class.
Ola Källenius described the gesture as a "great honor for us."
Pope Francis will welcome pilgrims to St. Peter’s Square in his specially designed vehicle for the Jubilee, set to take place on December 24.
The Vatican and Mercedes-Benz have collaborated for nearly a century, with the first Popemobile provided to Pope Pius XI in 1930.
The vehicle was custom-designed for the Pope, explained Peter Zotter, head of the development division at Mercedes-Benz's Graz plant in Austria.
