Intruder on plane: New York faces 'serious security problem'
But how is this possible? On November 26, a woman was able to board a plane from New York to Paris without any identification papers or plane ticket.
According to a spokesperson for the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the woman managed to bypass all checks, avoiding not only two ID checkpoints, but also the final boarding check. How could she fool everyone? The American authorities are going to have to shed some light on the case, and on the shortcomings of John F. Kennedy airport.
It was only on board a Delta Airlines plane that her behavior began to arouse suspicion. The passenger, who didn't have an assigned seat (without a ticket, it's complicated), went back and forth to the bathroom, all seats being occupied. After 6 hours in the air, her movements alerted the crew.
Once on the tarmac at Paris Charles de Gaulle, the stowaway was taken into custody by French police. A witness told CNN: “It was when we arrived at the boarding gate that they asked us to remain seated because the French police were about to board the plane in the face of a ‘serious security problem’”.
An investigation has been opened by both the US authorities and Delta Airlines, reports La Dépêche. A Delta Airlines representative said the company was conducting “a full investigation into what may have happened, and will work with other aviation stakeholders and law enforcement to that end”.
The incident leaves no New Yorker indifferent, as the holiday season is a good time to travel.
