30 injured by severe turbulence: 'People were flying around'
An Air Europa flight from Madrid to Montevideo did not exactly run smoothly. Due to turbulence over the Atlantic Ocean, thirty passengers were injured.
Flight UX045 eventually made an emergency landing at Natal airport, in northeastern Brazil. There the injured could be cared for immediately by the emergency services that arrived. Many people were taken to nearby hospitals.
Skull fracture
Many of the injured had hit their heads on the plane, but some passengers suffered skull fractures and facial cuts. One adult passenger even flew into the luggage compartment above the seats. Those who did not have their seat belts on flew around the plane.
