The French Riviera hit by a second earthquake in 2 months

People along the glamorous Riviera coastline between Toulon and Menton woke to the sound of small tremors on the night of Wednesday, October 2 last. Although the magnitude was relatively low, many residents reported feeling the tremors. The epicenter was located in the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 110 kilometers from Antibes, roughly half-way between Corsica and the Côte d'Azur.

This event serves as a reminder of the region, following a more intense 4.3 magnitude earthquake that occurred in mid-September of this year. Such seismic events, while typically minor, happen because of the geological dynamics of the area due to the interaction of tectonic plates beneath the Mediterranean,.

The quake served as a gentle reminder to the locals: earthquakes can and do happen there.
