Chaotic scene in Belgium after passage a violent tornado
On Thursday evening, a violent tornado hit part of Belgium. A municipal emergency phase was triggered in the municipality of Beauvechain, in the province of Walloon Brabant.
Several roofs were destroyed and electricity poles were torn off. Fortunately, no one was injured. However, several families will have to be rehoused. “Six families have to be rehoused, but most of the affected residents prefer to stay with relatives first,” the town’s mayor told the Belga news agency.
One of the victims testified on RTL info: “We didn’t have time to react ... We saw all these objects spinning, flying… The roof, the solar panels, our caravan was overturned, the trees at the back were torn off.” According to this resident, the tornado lasted 20 seconds.
The tornado also swept through the region of Tienen and Zoutleeuw (in the Flemish Region).
