Alert in the United States: houses are collapsing one after another

On September 24, in North Carolina, a house on stilts collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean. In the last 5 weeks, this is the fourth incident of this kind in the same region; a phenomenon that worries local authorities.

In North Carolina, part of the Outer Banks (a strip of sand stretching over 320km) is being nibbled away by coastal erosion.

Although this house was supposed to be demolished within the week, the safety of residents and tourists remains the authorities' main concern. Dare County is also urging the population to avoid beaches, as the shoreline is now littered with dangerous debris.

Houses on stilts, popular places for lovers of sea air, are now the first victims of the absolutely devastating effects of rising waters and erosion, Le Figaro points out. In the film "Rodanthe", starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere, and released in 2008, a house identical to the one that collapsed last week already symbolized the all fragile beauty of this coastal landscape.
